The Bumpiest Ride in the Wilderness

The Matterhorn. Probably known best for its bumps and turns. Everyone that gets off this ride, gets off with bruises. Despite this, it has a 45 Minute wait time usually. There are several reasons for this:

One reason is that its actually really fun. If you pick the right seat and if its a good day, the Matterhorn is a really fun ride. You will still get off a bit battered and slightly dizzy, but you will say, "That was fun, we should do it again in a little bit." But not everyone is a fit teenager that can ride the Matterhorn and live to tell the tale. Some people aren't the most fit or the most young, so its a much different experience for them. They can ride it and enjoy it, but they might not enjoy it as much as the teenager in front of them.

Another reason (one of the main ones in my opinion) to explain why people still wait an hour in the rain to ride this ride, is because its an icon of the park. The icy peak is visible from pretty much anywhere in the park, and outside if it. This can be related to an earlier post I have written on this blog, about the Disneyland Monorail. The magic of the place sort of escapes and comes and grabs you. It makes you wonder about the snowy mountain top. You want to see more, you want to get closer. Why is it there? What is it called? its not a dark desire to see, but a want fueled by curiosity and the magic of Disneyland. It is a very old attraction and has been around for generations. Your grandpa can say he rode it when he was in his 20's or 30's. It has been around since 1959 when the Tomorrowland expansion took place. Everybody has ridden the Matterhorn. Your a Disneyloser if you don't. Most everyone that visits Disneyland will probably ride this ride once, at least.

Before I go on, I would like to add that the idea of the Matterhorn is that you are racing down the icy slopes of the Matterhorn Mountain on a bobsled. And all the time you are avoiding the yeti that chases you down the mountain. So the bumpiness is all part of the experience, and adds a more "real" feel to the ride.

Now, don't mistake what I said up there as "The Matterhorn is a lame ride that people only ride cause it's popular". No, no, no. The Matterhorn is a classic attraction that people love to ride, and will continue to ride (despite the small bruises).

Now, at this point, a shortish history of the Matterhorn would be expected. But that is for another time, due to it being a long history and explanation. But it will come! So check back every so often for new pictures and posts, and thanks for reading.
