The very iconic Matterhorn Mountain re-opens May 22nd with a couple of small changes. The ride monster, the yeti will be getting a new look for a modern age. There will also be some new sounds and lights added to the ride to make it more of an adventure. Other wise our favorite mountin will stay about the same.

While I'm on the subject of the Matterhorn, here's some history of the famed mountain! During the costruction of the Disneyland park back in 1955, the dirt that was taken out to make the moat for he castle was piled up and stayed there for some time. The smal hill was called many things, but was just a hill. The new roller coasters of the day were getting very popular and so the imagineers told Walt they wanted to build a roller coster type ride inside an artificial mountain. Walt like the idea and costruction started. The Matterhorn made its debute on June 14, 1959. It was the first tubular tracked roller coster in the world. It was made of wood and steel and surrounded by man-made rock. It is famed to have a small basketball court inside and used to have the original skyway attraction go straight thru it. There are two tracks on the Matterhorn. One is called the Tomorrowland track and one is called the Fntasyland track. One side is famed to be faster but no ne knows for sure. As a small fun fact, the yeti in the ride is called Herold. So there you have it! A small history of the coolest mountain at Disneyland. :)
